Modern prosthetic limbs are advanced and comfortable, but they require special care—especially in hot and humid climates. At Biomove Prosthetics and Orthotics Center, we often see how heat can affect patient comfort when proper care is not followed.
1. Keep the skin dry
Hot weather increases sweating inside the socket, which may lead to irritation or redness. Make sure to use a prosthetic liner, dry the skin well before wearing the prosthesis, and ask your specialist about safe products that can help reduce sweating if needed.
2. Clean the prosthetic limb regularly
Wiping the inside of the socket and the liner every day with a suitable wet wipe or mild soap and warm water—then drying them thoroughly—helps reduce odors and skin sensitivity.
3. Avoid exposing components to direct heat
Do not leave the prosthetic limb in a hot car or near a strong heat source. Some components may become damaged or lose precision when exposed to high temperatures.
4. Watch for any changes in skin or comfort
If you notice redness, blisters, new pain, or changes in the stability of the prosthesis, contact the Biomove specialist team for adjustments. Avoid making any changes on your own.
5. Schedule regular check-ups
Even when everything seems fine, routine evaluations are recommended to check the stability of the limb, skin condition, and the performance of mechanical or electronic joints when present.
